About

A maritime hotel

The hotel is designed to celebrate the town’s maritime heritage, balancing contemporary services, comfort and style with the very particular qualities of these heritage buildings. Much of the original fabric of the buildings is left exposed. Pencil sketches from the mid 19th century of tall ships and calculations of rope lengths and sail canvas cover much of the internal lime washed walls of the third floor. Priceless ghosts.

The building

12 rooms

Each individually crafted room has the essence of the captain’s cabin: reclaimed wood lined walls, floors made from 150 years old oak, king-size beds, custom-made furniture and hand-picked reclaimed fixtures, Welsh wool blankets and textiles woven to traditional designs.

All rooms are en-suite and include Aesop soaps, breakfast, resident lounge and reservations at the bar.

History

Legacy

On April 11th 1819 the brig Albion set out from Cardigan, a ship carrying 27 families from the local area to a new life in New Brunswick, Canada. Approximately 150 persons proceeded to Fredericton, where they took up tickets-of-location for forest land between Madam Keswick and Nashwaak, founding almost certainly the first Welsh settlement in Canada, at Cardigan.

Restaurant

Yr Odyn

Yr Odyn, meaning The Kiln, takes its name from the remains of the 18th century lime kilns which formed part of the historic network of wharfside warehouses where the Albion is located. The name also embodies our love of cooking with fire and smoke.

Close by

fforest farm

A 1/2 hour walk along the river & into the nature reserve will bring you to our sister site, the farm. Set over 200 acres of land, accommodation has been placed amongst woodland, fields and in Georgian farm buildings. At the heart of the farm is one of Wales’ tinyest* pubs.
Ask at reception when the best time to visit the farm for the pub or restaurant.
*probably

Pizzatipi

Look across the river to the Pizzatipi, our first restaurant & bar set in a courtyard of buildings built to service the town and river once upon a time.
A casual option for drinks, pizza & snacs by the river or fire in the tipi.
